For me, the digital nomad dream has died. I am afraid that after 6 years of living like a king, reality has bitten. I am currently sitting in a hotel in Blackpool, England, listening to the soothing sound of grown men repeatedly and drunkenly chanting ‘It’s Coming Home’ again, and again, and again.
This has not been a wonderful month for me in all honesty. My fellow digital nomad and fiancée of 12 years went all Napoleon on me at the start of June, she gave me the Elba* in search of a better life**. My beautiful cat is still living in Portugal as I am unable to offer her a place to live right now and I am very much unemployed. Still, worse things happen at sea right? Right?!
*That is incredibly bad but if you can’t laugh what else have you got?
**In all seriousness, I love that woman, always will, we had and have grown apart. It’s one of those things, it’s been f**king tear-inducing more often than I’d like to admit but it almost certainly is for the best. I don’t think you will read this anymore but if you do, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, God knows where I would be if I didn’t know you. You have shared and created some of the happiest moments of my life with me and you made all of this possible. Don’t ever think I will forget that. I may not have been as appreciative of it all at the time, and that I will regret forever. No matter what happens between now and when we meet again, you will always be my best friend. I love you, Jessica. Be happy, you deserve it. x
Anyway, I’ve had my month of misery and now I’m back on the up. Yeah, I might not have a girlfriend but I can certainly try and look for a new one, a better one even (!?). My wonderful cat might be far away, but she is happy, safe and incredibly well looked after until I can figure something out. Hell, I even have an interview for a job next week that I think I actually want to do. My darkest hours came before the dawn and I’ve got to be optimistic that things can only get better. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Now, I’m a pessimist by nature, should that all go belly up, I’m going to need a fall back plan, maybe you do as well. Here it is. Here you’ll find some more of the latest and greatest remote job boards for you to fund your digital nomad dream life.
Oh, and on the off-chance that you’re single, preferably female but I don’t discriminate (we can be friends) and are in the Blackpool/Lancashire area, let me know, I’ll shout you a pint.
AllFreelanceWriting – ‘All The Time’ isn’t their slogan, probably because it wouldn’t make any sense. Still, if you are looking for all things freelance writing, this is a good shout.
Hired Online – Get hired online. It can’t be much clearer.
Post Status – Post Status is a job board for anyone interested in all things WordPress. Although there are currently an extremely low amount of jobs listed (3 when I checked) it may be worth keeping an eye on this one.
Remote Work Hub – All (not all) of the remote jobs in one hub. RMH.
jobs.wordpress.net – Jobs.from.wordpress.supported.by.me.net
Remote Python – Sounds to me like something you would buy in a ‘specialist’ store but what do I know. I’m sure all of you clever people know what python really means.
UX Jobs Board – UX Jobs. Sounds a bit punk, I like punk. If I had more hair I would go full-on punk. As it stands, I have to make do with sneering at things a lot and quietly nodding along to my Sex Pistols records. Maybe you’ll find a punk remote job of your dreams here. Maybe it’s got nothing to do with punk at all? Why should I tell you? Anarchy in the UX(k).
Wisestep – It would be a wisestep to ignore my punk ramblings there*, if you prefer something less rock and roll try wisestep instead.
*S#*t, that’s bad.
The Ladders – It might sound like an incredibly awful horror movie but it’s not*. It’s a pretty high-end recruitment company. If you are pretty high-end yourself, take a look.
*Amazing news. The Ladders might not be a film but they are an Italian Beatles tribute band!
SimplyHired – Get hired simply. Or something similar.
PostJobFree – GetJobGood.
Hubstaff Talent – I think I might have done Hubstaff talent before (THAT’S WHAT SHE/HE/THEY SAID! HAHAHAHA!!!!) but I’m not sure so I’ll do them again (THAT’S WHAT SHE/HE/THEY SAID! HAHAHAHA!) and use up some word count on those cracking jokes.
Unicorn Hunt – What is the big deal with Unicorns these days? Seriously, WTF Kidz? I don’t get it. It’s a horse with a carrot glued to it’s head surely. Alas, maybe this modern Britain isn’t for me but hey-ho, stiff upper lip and a cup of Earl Grey I guess. This unicorn hunt will hopefully bag you a startup job.
JS Remotely – Sounds like an author or a department store. It’s actually a one-stop shop for JAVA Script jobs.
The Guardian Remote Jobs – If you’re having work problems I feel bad for you son, the Guardian has 99* jobs listed, maybe you’ll get one**.
*At the time of writing
**It’s amazing she didn’t leave sooner really isn’t it. What kind of hackneyed Jay-Z reference was that? Crap. That’s what it was.
Code First: Girls – Working with companies, women and men to help increase the number of women in tech. Techxcellent.
Writing Career – I hear they are really good to know if you fancy a career in writing.
Well, that’s enough from me today. Have fun.
I might try and reboot this website a little bit, it’s nice to keep busy every now and then. Until next time, look after yourselves.
